Colours

Colour Registrations

Racing colours may be registered by up to six nominators each of whom shall have equal rights to the use of the racing colours provided that they all have unequivocal agreement to these rights.

Nineteen colours only will be allowed to be used, samples of which may be seen at the Queensland Racing Office viz:- White, Black, Brown, Dark Blue, Pale Blue, Green, Tartan, Pink, Orange, Yellow, Purple, Lilac, Red, Grey, Apricot, Pale Green, Fawn, Maroon and Cerise.

The shade of these nineteen sample colours must be adopted in all jackets and caps.
Identical jacket combinations will not ordinarily be allowed with a different coloured cap.
Up to three colours only may be used in a set of racing colours and no more than two of these three colours may be used on the body, sleeves or cap, except when checked bands, sashes or armbands are used. When stars, spots, circles or horseshoes are used on a single base colour, there shall be three on each sleeve.

The following dimensions shall be used:-
Seams 20mm, diamond, crossed and single sashes 100mm; braces 75mm; stripe 125mm; diamond 280mm depth and 230mm width; star 280mm point to point; checks and harlequin diamonds 100mm; stripes, diagonal stripes and hoops 75mm; horseshoes, circles, spots, diamonds and stars 100mm; horseshoes 280mm depth and 230mm width; Maltese cross 280mm x 280mm; band and armbands 125mm; checks in checked sash, band and armbands 60mm in rows of 2; striped cap two stripes of one the secondary colour; checked caps 60mm; spotted caps 80mm one to each segment; quartered caps 6 segments alternating.

Designs shall conform to the following diagrams except where the Committee approves variances. Initials will not be allowed under any circumstances. The nomenclature of the designs shall be adopted. See Jacket1, Jacket2, Sleeve and Cap Diagrams.

Notice … Racing Colours

Owners and Trainers are advised that to comply with Local Rule 33, all racing colours used on horses permanently trained in Queensland MUST be registered with Queensland Racing.
The following colour registration fees are applicable:

  • Registration of colours - $35
  • Renewal of colours (Falls due 1st July each year)
  • One (1) year - $35
  • Five (5) years - $120
Stewards conduct spot checks at race meetings to ensure compliance with this Rule.
Failure to register colours as required by the Rules could result in a monetary penalty being imposed in future.
