TBQA welcome release of Callinan report
The Thoroughbred Breeders Queensland Association (TBQA) welcomed the release of the Callinan report into the Equine Influenza (EI) outbreak.
The only surprise in this whole sage is why it took the Federal Government seven weeks to release this scathing report.
“AQIS practises are a disgrace. They are supposed to be there to protect this country and it is obvious they failed grossly. We totally endorse the recommendations as necessary to repair a dangerously inadequate quarantine system and strongly support the Federal Government’s decisive and resolute response to the report,” President Bob Frappell said.
The Federal Agricultural Minister Tony Burke said he will implement all 38 recommendations made by Callinan and the TBQA totally endorse that course of action.
The Queensland thoroughbred breeding industry was hurt particularly badly during the EI crisis.
Barely any breeder in Queensland escaped harsh losses.
The impact of the crisis will be felt for many years. Compensation is high on our agenda and the TBQA plan to leave no stone unturned in our efforts to get fair compensation for breeders in the Queensland breeding Industry.
We will be working hand in hand with the Thoroughbred Breeders Australia
(TBA) President John Messara, new Chief Executive Peter McGauran and the ARB.
The TBQA is calling for ongoing vaccination against EI to protect the Thoroughbred Industry against human error in the future.
This will be an ongoing issue but the release of this report has steeled our resolve to use every means available to protect breeders involved in the thoroughbred industry.
