Consistent grey gelding My Limit proved he was worthy of his $1.95 race favourite status in the Robert Brown QTIS Class 6 Plate 2200m at Eagle Farm on Saturday, September 9.
Jockey Jason Holder rode My Limit (G4 Show a Heart-Wabble) for trainer Robert Heathcote and they were third last as they went past the post for the first time. They continued travelling back to last place.
At the home corner they started moving up on the inside looking for ground as My Limit was held up for clear running. When they got the run, My Limit shot through and took the lead to win and made it look easy.
Grand Corso (Bobby El-Issa) followed behind two and a quarter lengths just a long head in front of Sir Coup (Brad Pengelly).
“I thought the horse ran super,” said Holder.
“He got back a long way and he finished the race off really good.
“Basically my instructions were to go around the field, well not go around the field but I wanted to give the horse plenty of galloping room. But I was back near last and there was nothing taking me into the race so I basically had to go to the inside and we were fortunate enough to get a bit of luck and things went our way.
“Probably his last 100m were his best part of the race, that’s what I liked about him. I didn’t hit him hard, I was just keeping his mind on the job and he was just responding beautifully.”
My Limit’s last start was a jump up to 2020m a fortnight earlier where he placed fifth in what was a tight finish with margins varying from a short head to a long neck in the first five home. He had run over the longer distances during Winter Carnival but has mostly challenged the miles.
“He just relaxed for me nicely,” said Holder.
“He’s got a good turn of foot for a horse that races over a bit of distance. He’s probably one of the nicest staying horses with ability, like he gives you the feeling he’s got potential.
“He’s the best potential horse I’ve ridden here in Queensland to say he’s going to go on with bigger, better races; better things to come for sure.”
“He was favourite so going in and when I did all the form I thought he’s the best horse in the race we just need a bit of luck in running. I’ve got to make sure I ride him correctly and we were fortunate enough it worked out really well.”
My Limit’s connections have now enjoyed four wins from his 20 starts, three of which were QTIS races. Never far from the prizemoney, My Limit has to date amassed $258,000 including $81,000 in QTIS bonuses.
