MEDIA RELEASE
Seminars provide valuable feedback
Queensland Racing Limited (QRL) has completed 10 of its 11 seminars aimed at updating regional stakeholders on the major issues facing country racing and raising the awareness of risk and crisis management.
QRL’s Chairman Mr Bob Bentley said the seminars provided valuable feedback to assist in modelling a sustainable future for country racing.
“The funding of racing has proven to be a challenge and I am certain that our stakeholders in the country have a better understanding of the issues,” Mr Bentley said.
“The seminars have provided a great opportunity for QRL staff and Board members to interact with stakeholders throughout Queensland and to provide further information.
“Whilst we have focused on 10 main issues throughout our presentations, the direct contact with stakeholders at the end of each seminar has provided an opportunity for stakeholders to liaise directly with QRL management on a wide range of issues.
“Importantly, there is an acute awareness that QRL must concentrate on supporting and sustaining the strategic country clubs that form the backbone of country racing. However, the level of funding for community racing must be reconsidered in light of the scarce resources available and other demands that compete with these resources,” Mr Bentley said.
The last remaining seminar will be conducted at Nudgee College on Monday, 23 June 2008, between 4pm and 8pm.
“Whilst the seminars are aimed at regional stakeholders and have a regional emphasis, I would encourage anyone interested in racing to attend Monday’s seminar,” Mr Bentley said.
