Stewards Report – Joshua Jones
Stewards today concluded the inquiry opened into the handling of LASSIE MACTAVISH by Apprentice Joshua Jones in Race 8 at the Brisbane Turf Club on 18 June 2008.
After taking further evidence from Apprentice Jones, his master Stephen Lee and the trainer of LASSIE MACTAVISH, Kelso Wood, Stewards found Apprentice Jones guilty of the contravention of AR135(b) and (c) which reads:
“The rider of every horse shall take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure that his horse is given full opportunity to win or to obtain the best possible place in the field.”
Stewards found that Apprentice Jones failed in his obligation under the rule by not maintaining, as instructed by the trainer, the position, directly behind the leader LOOSE UNIT between the 1300 metre and 600 metre section of the race.
After considering submissions put forward by and on behalf of Apprentice Jones, his licence to ride in races was suspended for one (1) month commencing midnight 29 June 2008 and to expire at midnight 29 July 2008.
