Rubbish recycling plant in full production:
QRL chairman not resigning
Queensland Racing Limited (QRL) wishes to advise all stakeholders that the rumour doing the rounds that chairman, Mr Bob Bentley, is retiring is a recycle of the rumour that surfaces occasionally and is spread in an attempt to further disrupt and divert attention from the main game.
Mr Bentley today said the spreading of rumours and constant conflict by a small minority of self serving dinosaurs demonstrates little regard for the hard working and loyal staff of QRL.
“I will not be resigning, retiring to the back bench or standing down,” Mr Bentley said.
“The Board by any reasonable measure has advanced the industry significantly during its’ term of office and will continue to build on the changes that have been implemented and further changes that are required to sustain the dynamics of the industry.”
Mr Bentley said the recent vote by stakeholders whereby QRL was seeking approval to modify the constitution to allow the existing Board to complete the full term was passed by an 87 per cent majority not withstanding a disputed return.
“This should send a signal and a clear message to those that continue to agitate for a return to a representative club control model that can only benefit a select minority,” Mr Bentley said.
“The representative race club control model has been tried and failed and in doing so paralysed the industry for 10 years, through conflict of interest and marginalised decisions. The race club representative model is current in the country racing council composition and is responsible for the current inaction and conflict of interest in decision making.”
Mr Bentley said QRL, as an independent body, was granted a control body licence to administer the thoroughbred code in Queensland for a period of six years commencing in 2006 and concluding in 2012.
QRL is a company incorporated under corporations law and operates under the Racing Act as well as the Minister of the Crown having broad powers of oversight.
QRL does not operate as a gentlemans club, and will continue to manage the industry for the benefit of stakeholders not the committees of race clubs.
