Dane Merchant rounded off a great day’s racing at Clifford Park when he scored a half length victory in the Townsville Guineas. It also provided a consolation for trainer Darryl Hansen who had earlier prepared Stage Shaker for a placing in the Townsville Cup. The Guineas winner is by former Eureka Stud shuttler Great Dane who also sired Mister Tivoli to win earlier in the day at Doomben.
Dane Merchant is a half-brother to Group 3 Qld Tatts Mercedes Benz St winner Jar Jar Binks (Danehill Dancer). Their dam Star Merchant is an unraced half-sister to QTC St Leger winner Filament (Lord Ballina) who, in turn, is the dam of NZ Group 2 winner Chettak (Almutawakel). She was exported to the Philippines last year after missing to Piccolo.

Dusty Moon charged down the outside to collar Hearty Laughter right in the line. He had been a good thing beaten at Toowoomba a fortnight beforehand but still went out at $12. The winner is part-owned and trained by Gary Bein who also prepared flying Moon Rocket filly Miss Watagan. Dusty Moon’s dam won four races in Sydney and she foaled a colt by Minardi last October.
