STEWARDS REPORT
DEAGON OFFICES – MONDAY 29 SEPTEMBER 2008
Queensland Racing Limited (QRL) Stewards today continued an inquiry that was opened at Doomben on the 3 September 2008 following jockey B El-Issa’s handling of MISS TWIST in Race 4 on that day. After taking a considerable amount of evidence from several witnesses and viewing the film of that race together with evidence from owners representative Mr H Hayes and trainer J Walk, Stewards gave jockey B El-Issa the benefit of the doubt as to him riding MISS TWIST to ensure the horse ran on it’s merits.
B El-Issa was charged with contravening AR135 (b) and (c) in that he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout the race to ensure MISS TWIST was given full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible place in the field.
Stewards specified that after MISS TWIST missed the start El-Issa rode the horse with the whip in a vigorous manner to cross to the lead prior to the 1200 metres. After the horse had been ridden hard to obtain the lead El-Issa attempted to restrain MISS TWIST until near the 900 metres where he allowed the horse to run along and placing it under pressure passing the 800 metres with the horse under significant pressure leaving the 500 metres.
After taking into account the tactics and considering the established racing pattern of MISS TWIST B El-Issa was found guilty and he was suspended for a period of 2 months. In accordance with AR196 (2) Stewards ordered that the two month period of suspension commence at the expiration of a period of suspension he is currently serving.
B El-Issa will be eligible to resume riding on the 26 December 2008.
