Danny Nikolic urges Pinnacles to front

A bit of time spent in Queensland has given Pinnacles his first Black Type win in the Listed Reed Property Group Glasshouse Handicap 1400m at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday, June 28.
Ridden by Danny Nikolic from barrier 13, the horse settled a long way back but continued to move forward around the outside of the field throughout the trip.
In the straight Pinnacles (G4 Fuji Kiseki JPN-Galroof NZ) snuck up and raced to the line with Cocktail Supreme (Daniel Griffin) and Alverta (Glyn Schofield).
It was Pinnacles who got there first by a half neck giving Cocktail Supreme’s trainer Pat Duff another second for the Winter Carnival. Another half neck placed Alverta third.
Owner and trainer Rick Hore-Lacy was happy with Nikolic’s manoeuvres in the race stating that he had ridden a “well judged race”.
“The horse he drew wide and we elected to ride him back and he started going around them at the right time and the horse just had enough gas left to get his neck in front in the line.”

The win followed a three week break for Pinnacles after a disappointing run in the Stradbroke and the freshen up certainly helped.
“What really helped was John Fleming taking him down the beach nearly every day. That’s what freshened him up and that’s what had to happen for him to be able to win,” said Hore-Lacy.
The horse had shown he had it in him after placing third in the Group 1 Doncaster Handicap at Randwick behind Triple Honour and Casino Prince and this placed great confidence in the trainer.
“Well, he only had to reproduce his Doncaster run to be very hard to beat. I mean it’s the best mile race in Australia; he was up a bit in weight. But there wasn’t the depth of horse there on Saturday which you’d expect.”
Pinnacles will now have a further break in Queensland after earning over half a million for connections.
“He’ll go for a spell up there for about a month and then he’ll come back into work at the beginning of August and we’ll get him ready for something in the Spring.”
