Minimum Race Number & Fields Policy

NOMINATIONS

TAB MEETINGS

At the programmed closure of nominations, any race which has less than sixteen nominations may have its nomination deadline extended. 

If, at the extended nomination deadline, a race has less than five nominations it may be deleted. 

NON-TAB MEETINGS 

At the programmed closure of nominations, any race which has less than eight nominations may have its nomination deadline extended. 

If,at the extended nomination deadline, a race has less than five nominations, it may be deleted Racing Queensland may apply the Discretionary Component of this Policy in its consideration of the retention of races at the time nominations close. 

ACCEPTANCES 

TAB MEETINGS

If a race does not have at least five acceptors, that race will be deleted. Exceptions may be in instances where it is a Black Type Race or where RQ has exercised the Discretionary Component of this policy. 

NON-TAB MEETINGS 

If a race does not have at least five acceptors, that race will be deleted. Exceptions may be in instances where it is a Feature or Cup Race, or where RQ has exercised the Discretionary Component of this policy. 

RACE DIVISIONS 

TAB MEETINGS 

Once acceptances have closed for a TAB meeting, if the number of acceptors for a race which does not have Feature of Black Type status allows for two full fields or, failing that, has at least 24 horses, the race may be divided. RQ will exercise the Discretionary Component of this Policy when giving consideration to same. 

NON-TAB MEETINGS 

RQ will exercise the Discretionary Component of this Policy when giving consideration to the potential division of races at non-TAB race meetings. 

DISCRETIONARY COMPONENT 

Notwithstanding any of the aforementioned conditions, if circumstances deem it appropriate RQ may exercise discretion in relation to: 

  • The consideration of the retention of TAB or non-TAB races depending on mitigating circumstances; and/or 
  • The consideration of the division/splitting of TAB or non-TAB races depending on mitigating circumstances. 

Factors taken into account relating to the retention of races or the division of races shall include the following: 

  1. The uniqueness of the race meeting egs once a year meetings with significant community emphasis;
  2. The geographical location of the racing venue in relation to horse/trainer populations;
  3. Suitable racing opportunities in the near future for horses nominated/accepted that might not secure a start ;
  4. The number of horses which hold dual acceptances;
  5. Potential rider availability issues;
  6. Whether another race(s) on the program has been deleted through insufficient nominations/acceptances having been received;
  7. Recent abandonments within the racing region;
  8. Starting limits;
  9. Whether an additional race can be accommodated broadcast wise;
  10. Whether one or more races at the meeting has been self (stake) funded by the club;
  11. Whether it is a Black Type, Cup or Feature Race;
  12. Any other factors deemed relevant to considerations.

Racing Queensland will, after making the decision to delete or divide TAB races, advise stakeholders of the decision by various means including SMS messages and/or emails and/or website postings.
