Following consultation with the Australian Trainers Association and Racing Queensland, Brisbane Racing Club has developed the following protocol for its (rescheduled) trials at Eagle Farm on Thursday 5 April 2018:

If the number of horses nominated exceeds 140 - following QRIC’s directive that starting limits be set at 8 - horses will be selected in the following order:

  1. Horses trialling for the purpose of obtaining a barrier certificate;
  2. Two-year-olds;
  3. Three-year-olds;
  4. Four-year-old and older horses – with locally trained horses (i.e. horses which permanently use a BRC training facility) to be given preference.

In cases where nomination levels are such that it is practical to program heats for all horses nominated (i.e. the limit of 140 horses is marginally exceeded) BRC may choose to exercise its discretion in this regard.

Trainers are advised that for the purposes of application of this criteria it is important to note on your nomination with Racing Australia that, if applicable, the horse is trialling for the purposes of obtaining a barrier certificate.
