Cheap Buys Providing Plenty Of Fun

The bargains keep coming.

Fresh from the success of Sixpenny Red the previous week, it was Cupcakesnwhipcream who broke maiden ranks last night (Wednesday) at Redcliffe.

Both fillies are graduates of the 2017 Garrards Redcliffe Yearling Sales and therefore, will be targeted towards the upcoming race series starting next month.

Heats are scheduled for Wednesday, May 23 while the Gr.1 $100,450 final will take place on Friday, June 1.

And both fillies have already paid for themselves.

Sixpenny Red, trained and driven by John Cremin, was purchased at a price of $2500 from the Burwood Stud draft of Noel and Christine Denning.

A daughter of Cammibest from the Ultimate Falcon mare Gotta Be Penny, the bay filly was knocked down to the bid of John’s wife Tanya.

Four Penny Dark, the grand-dam of Sixpenny Red was a multiple feature race winner while winning 31 races in total while banking in excess of $300,000.

Sixpenny Red rated 2:03.3 for the 1780m event while scoring by a comfortable margin of 6.8m.

The filly is now raced the Cremin clan, John and Tanya plus their two son’s Leigh and Dean.

Meanwhile, Cupcakesnwhipcream made the trek north for Darren McCall and also scored an impressive victory in a time of 2:02.9 for the 1780m event.

McCall is based at Menangle in Sydney and was facing the starter for the second time following a pleasing debut when 4th behind Lets Go To Brazil at Penrith on April 5.

The daughter of South Park Hanover – Jackies Shuffle was purchased at a price of $1250 from the Cold Mountain Stud draft.

Cupcakesnwhipcream is the second winner from Jackies Shuffle who produced Ohyouprettything (1 win).

Jackies Shuffle is a sister to Shuffles Western (1:53.8 - $266k).

The filly is raced by McCall’s wife, Karina Johansen.

Both Sixpenny Red and Cupcakesnwhipcream are QBRED fillies which have provided an extra bonus for their respective connections.

And the biggest bonus is yet to come, maybe June 1 could provide that?
