Progress is good.
And that’s the situation for talented former New Zealand pacer Watch Pulp Fiction following another pleasing trial effort.
A winner of his past four starts at Albion Park, the Art Major entire injured his nearside front tendon back in October which derailed all plans for the richly talented pacer.
But following treatment and a solid rehabilitation stint in recent times, he’s making giant inroads into a positive return and that was franked earlier today (Tuesday).
Prepared by Chantal Turpin and Pete McMullen, Watch Pulp Fiction won a 2138m stand start public trial at Albion Park easily defeating talented mare Georgia Grace by a clear margin.
Beginning strongly, Watch Pulp Fiction led throughout while Georgia Grace sat on his back before being dropped over the final stages.
The winning time was 1:59.5 with the winning margin a widening 17m.
Sectionals were recorded in 29.9, 30.9, 27.6 and 28.1 seconds.
“It was a good effort but importantly he came through it very well, he had a good blow immediately after the trial but all signs are quite positive so that’s great news.” Turpin said.
Watch Pulp Fiction won a 1660m mobile start trial on April 3 at Albion Park in 1:56.5.
But the immediate target will be the $20,630 Flashing Red at Albion Park on May 19.
Named in honour of the dual New Zealand Cup winner, the stand start feature will be run over the staying distance of 2647m.
“That’s the focus at this stage, we haven’t thought about anything else apart from that race and the trial result proves we’re on target.
“He’s a great stand start horse and the staying distance will suit him ideally, his record in New Zealand backs that up.
“We haven’t really thought anything beyond that race, the winter carnival makes plenty of appeal but it may be a bit too soon. We’ll let him decide which way we go, maybe another let-up after the Flashing Red and then start again.”
Watch Pulp Fiction has won 18 from 55 while banking in excess of $163,000.
