It will be an emotional time for trainer Desleigh Forster and the Nolan family if they can finally crack a feature race win with Malvern Estate in the Listed Weetwood Handicap at Toowoomba on Saturday.

Malvern Estate is part-owned by Raheen Stud principal Basil Nolan whose son Basil Nolan jnr died following a tragic accident last November.

In latest TAB markets, Malvern Estate is a $14 chance in fixed markets behind $3.60 favourite Mishani Hustler.

Forster rarely makes trips to Toowoomba preferring to concentrate on city races but when she does, she often has success.

In a rare visit up the range, Forster won the 2017 Toowoomba Cup with Cylinder Beach and 2016 Toowoomba Guineas with Too Good To Refuse.

Forster would love nothing more than to win Toowoomba’s biggest race for the Nolan clan who have been loyal supporters of her and are regarded as Darling Downs icons.

Desleigh Forster and the connections of the Nolan-bred Chapter And Verse celebrate winning January's Magic Millions QTIS Open.

Forster had hoped to be double handed in the Weetwood but has decided to scratch Cannyescent after the gelding drew wide and will rely on Malvern Estate.

Malvern Estate has been racing consistently and is coming off a last start second to the Toby Edmonds-trained Tyzone in the Listed Goldmarket Handicap at the Gold Coast last month.

It was the second successive year in which Malvern Estate was beaten in a photo in the Goldmarket after going down to the Tony Gollan-trained Raido last year.

Malvern Estate hasn’t won for over 12 months since claiming an Open Handicap at Doomben in February last year but Forster believes his form now is just as good.

“He had it won everywhere bar the line when Raido grabbed him last year and the same thing happened this year when Tyzone got him,” Forster said.

“I would have preferred a better draw for Malvern Estate and that’s why I’m not running Cannyescent because of his draw.

“It’s never easy winning at Toowoomba and the locals are always hard to beat.

“We didn’t aim him for last year’s Weetwood because we thought it would be too hard for him but he’s more seasoned now.

“He’s racing well and has done everything right since the Goldmarket and hopefully he can win.”
