Trainer Darryl Hansen is confident of keeping his Magic Millions dream alive on a rain-soaked Doomben on Saturday.

Hansen trains two of the State’s most promising sprinters, Monsieur Gustave and Bring It Home Pop, who will run at Doomben despite a heavy track.

Monsieur Gustave is a $3.90 favourite in latest UBET markets in the Group 3 George Moore Stakes (1200m) while Bring It Home Pop is a $4.00 second favourite in the Winning Rupert Plate (1200m).

Both sprinters relish rain-affected tracks but Hansen would prefer a dry surface for Bring It Home Pop.

“Bring It Home Pop is very versatile and won on a heavy 10 last start but he’s better on top of the ground,” Hansen said.

Bring It Home Pop is targeting the $500,000 Summer Crown bonus and will have his next two starts in the Listed Gold Edition Plate (1200m) on December 16 and Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) a fortnight later.

Both races will be run at Doomben before Bring It Home Pop’s grand-final in the $2 million Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) at the Gold Coast on January 13.

A $500,000 bonus is available if one horse wins three of the five-race Summer Crown series which also includes the Listed Mode Plate on Saturday.

Hansen has a big opinion of Bring It Home Pop who has won four of his nine starts.

“I think Capital Gain is probably the one to beat as he has won a Group 1,” Hansen said.

Hansen is delighted with the improvement taken from Monsieur Gustave since winning his third straight Stakes race in the Keith Noud Quality at Ipswich last month.

“He pulled up really well and has improved a lot since the Keith Noud,” Hansen said.

“I was a bit worried going 10 days after his last run but he hasn’t missed a beat.

“He gets better with every run each preparation that’s why he has such a great second-up record.”

Monsieur Gustave has started four times second-up for three wins and a third.

The five-year-old’s barrier draw in 14 caused Hansen some heartache but his concerns are likely to ease with scratchings.

“The alley did worry me a bit but there’s already some scratchings and more may come if the rain stays around,” he said.
