Get Stuck In’s two career wins had come in Maiden Class at Toowoomba and Class One company in Rockhampton, but after two promising city runs the four-year-old gelding showed he was well and truly up to Metropolitan grade coming from second last the fence to win the 0-70 Handicap over 1400m.

The win gave premiership leading trainer Tony Gollan his fourty-fifth winner of the season and the trainer said he was bullish about the gelding’s chances pre-race.

“I’ve got a few good chances here today, but I thought he was the best of the lot with the blinkers on,” Gollan said.

“It’s something he’s probably needed earlier in his career, but I just thought he was a little young to put them on last prep, but we saw what they did for him today.”

Gollan said rising apprentice Baylee Nothdurft produced a top ride to give the gelding clear air.

“I thought Baylee did a great job with him, we planned to be in about the third pair and ended up second last the fence and I wasn’t sure how he was going to get him out, but he did,” Gollan said.“

Even though we weren’t where we thought we would be in the run I could see he was really travelling and will only get better once I get him up over the mile.”

Gollan was full of praise for the horse “that leaves nothing in the locker” every time he goes around.

“I wish every horse in the stable tried as hard as him, he’s a real Saturday city class horse and this won’t be the last time we see him win here on a Saturday,” he said.

Get Stuck In is out of the Melbourne Cup placed Lucas Cranach a sire yet to produce many winners, but thanks to loyal owners Graham and Linda Huddy Gollan has several promising types in the stable.

“I’ve got quite a few out of Lucas Cranach in the stable and they are all owned by Graham and Linda Huddy, who are great supporters of the stable.”

“Every one of them can gallop, but they’re not early developers and don’t do much as two-year-old’s.

”Linda Huddy said herself and Peachester Lodge had bought several horses out of the sire and was hoping the win was a sign of things to come.

“I think this is the first horse out of him (Lucas Cranach) to win in the city.”

“Last time I checked he’d only produced fifteen winners, which isn’t fantastic but hopefully this is the start of a good run.”
