Toowoomba’s Ben Currie has played down hopes of equaling his best Saturday metropolitan training feat at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Currie had one of his biggest representations at a metropolitan meeting when he accepted with 12 runners but he’s already decided to scratch three of them.

Currie’s best training performance was four winners at a midweek meeting at Doomben in May last year while his best Saturday performance was a treble on Weetwood Handicap day at Clifford Park two years ago.

“I trained four winners one day at Doomben in May last year but my best Saturday result was a treble at Toowoomba on Weetwood day two years ago,” Currie said.

“It’s always hard to win races in town on a Saturday and I’m just hoping they all run well and get some luck.”

Currie rates Mishani Hustler, Kay Kay Boy and Fomo as his best chance of treble.

Apprentice Baylee Nothdurft will partner Mishani Hustler in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap (1200m) and Fomo in the Open Handicap (1600m) while Jim Orman takes the mount on Kay Kay Boy in the Benchmark 80 Handicap (2206m).

Mishani Hustler is a $3.00 favourite in latest TAB markets following his first-up fifth to Fiery Heights in the Listed Falvelon Quality (1110m) at Doomben on December 29.

“It was a huge run and he didn’t get the best of luck,” Currie said.

“He’s improved a lot and has got barrier one so there’s a lot of positives for him.”

Currie rates Kay Kay Boy the stable’s next best hope along with Fomo.

Kay Kay Boy led and weakened to finish 10th to Bergerac in the Listed Bernborough Handicap at his last appearance while Fomo finished second to Future Event in a Benchmark 85 race at Ipswich on January 12.

“Kay Kay Boy got pushed wide last run so his effort was quite good,” Currie said.

“He’s done well since the run and going out to 2200 metres will really suit him.

“Fomo ran a good race at Ipswich last time and he’ll also be competitive.”
