Black Opium has been backed into $2.30 fixed-odds favourite for tomorrow night’s $375,000 Sky Racing Brisbane Cup at Albion Park.

The Group 1 blockbuster, which is the richest greyhound race ever to be run on Queensland soil, has attracted a blue-chip field with $250,000 on offer to the winner.

In total, $500,000 will go on the line at Super Night which includes a feature race from each of the five distances contested at Albion Park (331m, 395m, 520m, 600m, 710m).

Having finished second in last year’s Melbourne Cup before repeating the feat at March’s Australian Cup, Black Opium is looking to break through for her first victory at the highest level after setting the fastest time in the heats with a sizzling 29.62.

A three-and-a-half length victory over Million Dollar Chase winner, Mystic Riot ($9.50), a fellow finalist, underlined the strength of her performance in the heats.

Dyna Patty ($4.40), Zipping Bailey ($6.50) and Barooga Brett ($12) are already Group 1 winners, while Sennachie ($4.60) captured the Group 2 Queensland Derby in 29.53 in May and sits on the third line of betting.

Racing Queensland Chief Operating Officer Adam Wallish said the organisation’s ambition to program Super Night as the highlight of the TAB Winter Racing Greyhound Carnival had lived up to the billing.

“We’re set for a fantastic event,” Mr Wallish said.

“An incredible field has been assembled for the Brisbane Cup with some of the world’s fastest greyhounds, while the support card looks just as good.

“We unashamedly wanted a Group 1 blockbuster for our Winter Carnival and that’s what we have delivered.”

The 11-race card commences at 6.18pm with tickets available at the door.
