Few Kiwi sprinters have crossed the Tasman and measured up to the Brisbane winter carnival in recent times but trainer John Bary believes Miss Wilson could be an exception.

Miss Wilson is a half sister to the well credentialled Jimmy Chioux and is a $15 chance in the Group 1 Tatt’s Tiara (1350m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Jimmy Chioux was New Zealand’s champion three-year-old and Horse Of The Year in 2010-11 and started in 15 Group 1 races in his 26-start career.

Among his five Group 1 wins were the New Zealand Derby and Rosehill Guineas in 2011 while he was also runner up in the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.

Bary, who also won the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate with The Hombre in 2010, rolled the dice with a Brisbane trip with Miss Wilson after she claimed the Group 1 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes (1600m) at Te Aroha on April 7.

“I was going to run her at Rotorua after that but it was too heavy so I came here and gave her a trial which she won at Eagle Farm recently,” Bary said.

Miss Wilson started her career with Bary before she was sent to Ballarat trainer Simon Morrish for the 2015 spring carnival.

“I had her as a two-year-old for a couple of runs before the owners got a bit frustrated with the wet tracks in New Zealand and sent her to Simon Morrish in Victoria for the spring,” he said.

“Luckily for me the owners brought her home later and asked me to have another go with her.

“I don’t think she was ready to travel to Melbourne at the time.”

Bary has dismissed Miss Wilson’s critics and warns she is good enough to win for a second time at the highest level.

“Mark my words, if everything goes right she’ll be there at the finish,” Bary said.

“She’s a big striding mare.”

Meanwhile trainer Jason Coyle is delighted with Siren’s Fury after she snuck into the Tatt’s Tiara field and drew gate two.

Siren’s Fury flashed home to finish fourth, only one length behind Invincibella in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes last start.

“She did nothing in the first half of the race but once she got into the clear she did as good as any other in the race,” Coyle said.

“I’m pleased with her condition and she’s done well since the Dane Ripper.

“She had a bit of a blow after her work yesterday which cleaned her right out for the race,” he said.
