Trainer Chris Waller has signaled his intentions to take on the boys in this weekend's Queensland Derby at Doomben with Oaks-winning filly Youngstar.

Youngstar and stablemate Another Dollar were nominated for the Derby after their nail-biting quinella in the Oaks on may 26.

Although the latter pulled up without issue following the Oaks, Waller in a press release said he would send the Ocean Park filly to the paddock.

"She has come through her narrow defeate in the G1 QLD Oaks without any issues, however I feel it would be best to give her a break now and prepare her for the spring with a likely tilt toward the Epsom Handicap," Waller said.

Youngstar sits on the fourth line of betting and is rated a $9 chance to take the Derby with UBET.

"We will continue to monitor her progress up until Saturday morning as I have been mindful of not overtaxing her. However I was  very happy with her gallop this morning (Tuesday) and she continues to handle her time in QLD exceptionally well," Waller said.

Final acceptances for the QLD Derby close at 9am on Wednesday morning.
