Two-year-old You Know The One will be out to provide trainer John Zielke with his first city winner from his new Gold Coast stable at Doomben on Saturday.
Zielke ended a near three-year-old stint at Toowoomba last month for family reasons and has 17 boxes with more to come at the Gold Coast.
Zielke is hoping You Know The One, who lines up in the QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap (1350m) can qualify for the $250,000 QTIS Jewel at the Gold Coast on Saturday week.
“It was a family decision to move from Toowoomba to the Gold Coast,” Zielke said.
“They all wanted to move closer to the beach and it was the right time to move.
“I think in a few years the Gold Coast will become a metropolitan track and they’ll have night racing.”
Zielke still has the support of long time backer, Evan Hartley’s Dovedeen Pty Ltd, which was the main reason why he was Queensland’s leading trainer of two-year-old’s last season.
Zielke plans to be a major player with runners in both the QTIS Two-Year-old Jewel and QTIS Three-Year-Old Jewel in 10 days.
“I’ve got Make My Own Luck running in the Three-year-old Jewel and hopefully I’ll have a few in the two-year-old race,” he said.
“Hopes Eternal is in the Two-Year-Old Jewel but he’s missed some work and jumpouts because of the bad weather and will need to jump out soon or have a decent gallop to start.
“Unfortunately, Champagne Garden is ineligible as he was bought at the Inglis Ready To Run sale in Melbourne.
“Champagne Garden is a very good horse and all going well I hope he will go on to the Sires’ Produce and J J Atkins during the winter.”
Zielke has overlooked You Know The One’s last start fourth to Mishani Hustler at Doomben.
“You Know The One was a bit disappointing when he ran fourth last time but he’s pulled up well and is a lot better in the coat this time,” he said.
“I thought he was more forward than he actually was so he’ll be a lot fitter for this.”
Champagne Garden is a homebred owned by Hartley’s Dovedeen Pty Ltd and Bob Lapointe.
“I had him in at Doomben the day they were called off and I thought he was a moral that day,” Zielke said.
“But it would be nice if You Know The One can make the field for The Jewel.
Zielke also hopes to run Fast And Hopeful in the QTIS Jewel if the filly is successful at Ipswich on Wednesday.
