Trainer Matt Dunn has given punters a strong pointer with a slight preference to Dreaming Of Biscay over stablemate Rest Of The World when the pair clash in the Class Three Plate at Doomben on Wednesday.

Dunn is relying on the pair to lift their ratings as they bid for a place in the Country Championships Final at Randwick on April 4.

Dunn is chasing his first win in the final after three failed attempts with La Scopa, Snitz and Perfect Dare.

“This is an important race for both Dreaming Of Biscay and Rest Of The World for two reasons,” Dunn said.

“Firstly, they both need to run and secondly they need to lift their ratings if they are to make the Country Championships final next month.

“I’ve got one in the final with Gracie Belle who qualified when she ran second in a qualifying race at Grafton last month.

“I’ve had three runners, La Scopa, Snitz and Perfect Dare all make the final in the past three years but they got smashed in all three finals which were run on heavy tracks.”

Dunn is happy with the form of his pair and believes they’ll be very competitive.

Dreaming Of Biscay was originally trained by Nick Olive in Canberra and has had five starts for Dunn including his latest effort when third to Plonka in a heat of the Country Championships at Grafton on February 20.

“Gracie Belle ran second that day and qualified for the final when she just beat home Dreaming Of Biscay who ran third,” Dunn said.

“I’m very happy with Dreaming Of Biscay as she had to do a stack of work off a bad barrier last start.

“Her form was only ordinary before I got her but since she’s been with me, I can’t fault her.”

Dunn said bad barriers had plagued Rest Of The World throughout his career but he had finally drawn a good barrier in gate five.

The four-year-old was placed first-up at Doomben on January 1 before breaking through for a last start win in a Benchmark race over 1200 metres at Murwillumbah on February 22.

“I’ve had to scratch him four times because of bad barriers and he had the outside draw when he won last time,” Dunn said.

“His form has been good and it’s hard to split them but I’m giving Dreaming Of Biscay a slight edge.”
