Trainer Stu Kendrick expects talented three-year-old Star Of Michelin to confirm a Queensland Guineas campaign with a strong showing at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Star Of Michelin lines up in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap (1600m) after an unlucky last start fourth to the Chris Anderson-trained Ballistic Boy over 1400 metres at Eagle Farm on March 7.

“Matt (McGillivray) said he had no luck last start and he couldn’t get out in time to get a clear run,” Kendrick said.

“To finish fourth and get as close as he did was terrific.

“I’m looking at the Queensland Guineas with him and this race will give us a good guide.

“It’s over a mile like the Guineas and it should be a perfect race for him.”

Kendrick had nominated Star Of Michelin for some of the major three-year-old races in Sydney but chose to stay at home to concentrate on the Brisbane winter carnival.

The son of Jet Spur was having his first start for a month when he went down by less than one length to Ballistic Boy.

“I had planned to run him two weeks before his last run but I wasn’t happy with his blood count at the time,” Kendrick said.

Star Of Michelin was bred by the late Ross Cutts, best known as the owner-breeder of former Group 1 winner and champion sire Show A Heart.

Star Of Michelin’s dam Conca Bella was unraced and was by Show A Heart, who stood at Glenlogan Park where he became one of the State’s champion sires for many seasons.

Star Of Michelin’s grand dam, Wabble, won the 2012 Group 1 Oakleigh Plate at Caufield for Rob Heathcote.

Kendrick believes Star Of Michelin is looking for 1600 metres and has no regrets not targeting last week’s QTIS Jewel over 1200 metres at the Gold Coast.

Meanwhile Kendrick also expects strong performances from Jagged Edge in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap (1000m) and Cosmic Gossip in the QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap (1400m).

Jagged Edge finished eighth to subsequent Three-Year-Old QTIS Jewel winner The Odyssey at Doomben last month while Cosmic Gossip finished sixth behind Two-Year-Old QTIS Jewel winner Kisukano at the Gold Coast last week.

“I’ve decided to roll the dice and back up Cosmic Gossip as she just doesn’t seem to go at the Gold Coast,” Kendrick said.

“She’s nominated for a couple of the bigger races in the winter but the QTIS money in the next few weeks is too good to knock back right now.

“I had Jagged Edge in the Jewel last week but he’s better suited over 1000 metres and he’ll like Eagle Farm better.”
