The training partnership of Peter Hulbert and son Will is having its best ever season and is hopeful Rebel Rock can continue the stables good fortunes at the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday.

Rebel Rock has been placed at his only two starts this campaign and tackles a slick field in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap over 1400 metres.

Team Hulbert was one of the first training partnerships to begin in Queensland four years ago and trained 14 winners last season.

This season, the partnership has already notched up 18 wins with three months of the season still remaining.

“This is our best season with 18 wins and hopefully it can continue,” Peter Hulbert said.

One of the main threats to Rebel Rock is the Stewart Barr-trained topweight Shadow Of Time, who beat him by one length when the pair clashed over 1350 metres at Doomben on April 22.

“Rebel Rock meets Shadow Of Time 1.5kgs better this time and I think he’ll be very hard to beat over 1400 metres on the bigger Caloundra track,” Hulbert said.

“Last time Rebel Rock was driven out of the barriers and then pulled hard once the pace came off.

“I think we’ll come out a bit quieter on him this time to give him every chance to come home.”

Peter Hulbert trained many horses for Barr, who remains a prominent owner in Queensland despite branching out to train.

Barr began training at Wondai near Gympie but has relocated to the Sunshine Coast where he has nine horses in work and hopes to soon begin his own training partnership with daughter, Katie.

Barr and Hulbert have been friends for almost 10 years and teamed to win many races including Shadow Of Time’s dam Endless Shadow, who was a seven-times winner.

Her biggest win was the Magic Millions fillies and mares race at the Gold Coast in 2015.

Shadow Of Time has drawn awkwardly in barrier eight compared to Rebel Rock’s gate two but Barr isn’t concerned.

“Barriers don’t seem to worry my horse at Caloundra for some reason,” Barr said.

“He was nominated for a Benchmark race at Doomben last Saturday but we decided to give him a shot at this race tomorrow.

“He’ll give it a red-hot go.”
