Talented sprinter Master Jamie begins another campaign in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap at Rockhampton on Friday ahead of a possible return trip to Brisbane over the summer.

Master Jamie is unbeaten in six starts in central and north Queensland with his only defeat coming when trainer Graeme Green sent him to Brisbane as a two-year-old last year.

The son of Poet’s Voice blotted his perfect record with a game third to the Tony Gollan-trained Vincere Volare at Doomben in November last year.

He has not started since showing his versatility by winning on a heavy track at Rockhampton in July.

“He’s a nice horse but he’s only beating local horses at the moment,” Green said.

“The only time he was beaten was when I took him away to Brisbane last year when he ran third in a two-year-old race.

“He was on the verge of going shin sore and actually pulled up shin sore after the race.”

Jockey Les “Bubba” Tilley has ridden Master Jamie in five of his six wins and will be aboard again.

Green trained at Brisbane’s Deagon racecourse for five years before moving back to Rockhampton to train last year.

“I was the course manager at Rockhampton for many years before the floods forced us out and we went to Deagon for five years,” Green said.

“I’ve got family here so we moved back to be semi-retired but I’m actually working more than ever now.”

Green, who has 13 horses in work at Callaghan Park, is confident Master Jamie can continue his winning streak.

“He’s had a jump out over 550 metres but he’s got a lot of weight with 61.5kgs,” he said.

“If he runs well, I’d like to give him another run here then take him back to Brisbane for a three-year-old race at the end of the month.

“It will be a good test to see if he’s up to the grade in Brisbane.”

Green picked up Master Jamie for a song at the Magic Millions March sales as a yearling.

“I got him for $10,000 but unfortunately he’s not paid up for the Magic Millions,” he said.

“Long term, I’d like to look at the big QTIS race at the Gold Coast in March.”

Rockhampton has a long history of producing top flight sprinters such as Our Boy Malachi and Green is hopeful Master Jamie could be the city’s latest.
