New series for Burnett-Wide Bay region

A new series aimed at boosting participation and increasing returns to participants in the Wide Bay-Burnett region begins this weekend.

The inaugural Burnett To Beach points-based Series kicks off at Eidsvold on Saturday (October 6) and winds its way through eight race clubs over a two-month period.

A total of $10,000 in bonuses are on offer to be shared between trainers, owners and jockeys that accrue the most points throughout the series, which wraps up at Nanango on December 2.

The series will follow the Burnett River out to Bundaberg and back through many towns in the region and was developed in conjunction with members of the Country Racing Panel.

The program will take shape as follows;

  • Eidsvold RC – Ratings 0-60 Handicap 1030m (6 October)
  • Gayndah JC – Benchmark 60 Handicap 1200m (13 October)
  • South Burnett RC (Wondai) – Open Handicap 1465m (20 October)
  • Bundaberg RC – Benchmark 60 Handicap 1380m (6 November)
  • Kumbia RC – Open Handicap 1000m (6 November)
  • Mount Perry RC – Benchmark 60 Handicap 1000m (17 November)
  • Gympie TC – Benchmark 60 Handicap 1030m (24 November)
  • Nanango RC – Benchamrk 65 Handicap 1000m (2 December)

The series is based on the format of the Magic Millions Far North Queensland Up and Coming Stayers Series.

Bonuses will be offered in the following manner;

  • $5000 to the trainer that accrues the most points in the above races
  • $3000 to the owner of the horse that accrues the most points
  • $2000 to the jockey who accrues the most points

Racing Queensland balloting conditions for ratings based handicap races will apply in all races throughout the series.
