Talented Rockhampton three-year-old Master Jamie will be aimed for the $300,000 QTIS Jewel at the Gold Coast in March if he can overcome his barrier woes at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Trainer Graeme Green has a big opinion of the Poet’s Voice gelding who will be attempting to win for the 10th time in 13 starts in the male’s division of the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap (1200m).

Green expects Master Jamie to be hard to beat but will be holding his breath at the start.

“If he doesn’t miss the start, he’ll be very competitive,” Green said.

“He missed the start a few times in his nine wins back home but he can’t afford to do that in Brisbane.

“We think we found the key to him when we had a barrier attendant hold his tail when he won his last two races in Rockhampton and I’ll have his tail held again.”

Green trained at Brisbane’s Deagon racecourse for five years before moving back to Rockhampton to train two years ago.

He picked up Master Jamie for only $10,000 at the Magic Millions March sales as a yearling.

Master Jamie has been well beaten at his only two Brisbane starts but Green had excuses for both runs.

He finished third behind the Tony Gollan-trained Vincere Volare at Doomben in November, 2018, and was a well beaten seventh when he returned for the Winning Rupert at Doomben 12 months later won by another Gollan-trained runner Le Palmier.

“In both starts in Brisbane he sat back on the gates,” Green said.

“He was also at the end of his campaign the day he ran third and he missed the start in the Winning Rupert and got caught four deep,” Green said.

Master Jamie is the early $4.80 favourite in TAB markets to record a breakthrough win in Brisbane.

Green believes Master Jamie will be at his top for his third attempt to win in Brisbane.

“This is his fourth start back and he had a week off in the paddock in the middle of those runs,” he said.

“He’s a smart horse and he and Better Reflection are probably the best sprinters in Rocky.

“Better Reflection is a very smart filly but he’s up with her as their times have been very similar.”

Jockey Les “Bubba” Tilley has ridden Master Jamie in seven of his nine wins and will be aboard again.
