Veteran jockey Glen Colless will make a rare trip to the Sunshine Coast on Sunday to fulfil commitments for the training partnership of Bryan and Daniel Guy.

Colless has two rides for Team Guy aboard Kuiper in the Class Two Plate (2200m) and Lady Eighty Eight in the Class One Handicap (1300m).

His other ride is first starter Rock Tour for local trainer Kristy Best in the Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate (1000m).

Colless brought up another career milestone when he landed his 2000th winner aboard the Tony Gollan-trained Lucadeal at the Gold Coast on March 9.

Colless has been riding for 35 years after starting his career in the Northern Rivers but in recent times has rarely made the two hour-plus trip from the Gold Coast to ride at Caloundra.

His career has included around 30 stakes wins and two Group 1 victories in the Doomben 10,000 (Mt Innocent) and BTC Cup (Malguerra).

The last time he ventured to Caloundra he had one ride and was successful aboard the Kelly Schweida-trained Lola’s Diamond on February 24.

His only other ride at the track this year was on February 10 when he ran last on the Kristy Best-trained Von Courage.

Bryan Guy believes both his runners will be competitive after Kuiper finished sixth at his last appearance.

“Glen has been riding well and his last two rides for me were both winners,” Guy said.

“I think they are both good each way chances.”

Kuiper was having only his third start this campaign when sixth over 1800 metres at the Gold Coast on March 9 while Lady Eighty Eight was a close fourth in a 1350-metre Class One at Ipswich on March 1.

Colless’ recent winners for Guy were Junction at the Gold Coast on February 16 and Super Kids at the same venue on March 9.

Colless spent three months off recuperating after hurting his back in September and only returned to race riding in December.
