Trainer Brian Smith is hoping the Brisbane winter carnival will again come into focus for one-time Queensland Derby favourite Order Again after the gelding makes his comeback at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Order Again will again be ridden by regular jockey Larry Cassidy when he returns in the Open Handicap (1400m).

The five-year-old hasn’t raced since finishing fourth to the Steve Tregea-trained Prioritise at Doomben in mid-September.

Order Again has pleased Smith since he came back into work and was happy with his third in a recent barrier trial at Doomben.

“His trial was okay when he ran third,” Smith said.

“I’m very happy with the way he’s come back and he’s fit and well.”

Smith has no major plans in mind for Order Again whose career has been disrupted by a series of feet problems.

“He’s running on Saturday and will have his next start in two weeks over 1500 metres,” Smith said.

“After that, it’s race by race but naturally if he comes back good enough, we’ll be looking at the winter carnival races.”

Order Again has started only 13 times during his career for four wins and as many placings but his resume should read better.

Smith’s patience has been tested many times with Order Again who has suffered from a series of setbacks throughout his career.

Order Again rocketed into Queensland Derby favoritism during the 2017 season when he ran second in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate before winning the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes at Doomben.

However, Order Again missed the Queensland Derby after it was discovered he had fluid in a joint.

Order Again has started only five times since being ruled out of the Queensland Derby for one win at Doomben last August.
