Co-trainer Rex Lipp may step up promising filly Baristasista to Stakes races during the TAB Queensland Summer Racing Carnival following her dominant victory at Ipswich on Saturday.

With the Recognition Stakes meeting at the Gold Coast falling victim to the big wet, Ipswich took centre stage for punters with a bumper 10-race meeting going ahead on a Heavy track.

Baristasista started the shortest priced favourite on the day at $1.10 and duly saluted for her supporters in the QTIS Three-Year-Old Benchmark 65 Handicap over 1200 metres.

Lipp, who trains in partnership with Nicholas Hahn, has been a great believer in the old adage – little fish are sweet.

Baristasista is a half-sister to Lipp’s promising mare Bad Barista and took her record to three wins from seven starts when she led all the way to down Committ To Success by nearly three lengths.

“I trained her mother, Sparkling Sound, and she was a useful performer who won six times,” Lipp said.

“She had a comfortable win at Ipswich but I’m not sure how strong her opposition was.

“She did it easy and handled the heavy track well so she’s pretty versatile.

“There’s no big plans for her at this stage but hopefully we can find some black-type for her during the summer.”

Lipp has nominated Baristasista for the Magic Millions Guineas at the Gold Coast in January and will take confidence in her ability to handle wet tracks.

The filly is by former Group 1 winner Spirit Of Boom while Bad Barista is a daughter of Spill The Beans.

Spirit Of Boom won twice at the highest level in the Doomben 10,000 and Willian Reid at Moonee Valley in 2014 while Spill The Beans was a Group 2 winning son of champion sire Snitzel, before he died suddenly in 2019.

Meanwhile Lipp is hoping for a feature double with Simply Fly in the Group 3 George Moore Stakes and Tycoon Evie in the Listed Eureka Stud Classic at Doomben on Saturday.

Simply Fly finished fifth to the Tony Gollan-trained Tambo’s Mate in the Listed Keith Noud Stakes at Doomben on November 13 while Tycoon Evie is coming off a last start win in a Benchmark race at Eagle Farm on November 6.
