  6. Noorama Picnic Race Club Cup

Noorama Picnic Race Club Cup

The Noorama Picnic Races has been a tradition for over 50 years and has grown remarkably over the years to now be recognised as an outback event not to be missed.

The district of Noorama dates back to the 1880's and is rich in pastoral history.

The Noorama Recreational Centre was borne in the mid 1900’s as a meeting place for the community’s sporting and social activities. A cricket club was established in 1957 with the local team challenging Cunnamulla, Enngonnia and other country clubs. A tennis club was also formed and a strongly contested gymkhana was run each year.

In 1964 the Noorama Picnic Race Club was established and the first Noorama race meeting was held on May 14, 1966. A crowd turned out with great gusto from near and far to see the 43 horses compete for $365 worth of trophies.

Today, the Noorama Recreational Centre still plays host to many of the sporting activities for which it was originally intended, although it has successfully expanded its scope of operation to meet the changing needs of its surrounding community.

In 2016 Noorama Picnic Race Club celebrated 50 years of racing.
