When questioned regarding the poor performance, rider M Gray his mount travelled well throughout but when asked for an effort, failed to respond and proved disappointing. Trainer R Hay stated that he could offer no excuse for the poor performance, but would undertake to report to stewards on the condition of the gelding in the days subsequent. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
