Underwent a pre-race vet exam after being fractious in the barriers was passed suitable to start. When qst, rdr std with blinkers on for the first time the gelding began better than expected and took up an early forward position. He said when racing wide, his mnt overraced and rather than restrain, he allowed it to stride forward to the lead near the 1300m. He added further it raced too keenly in the lead and as a result was left without a finishing effort over the concluding stages. A post-race vet exam revealed no abnormalities.
