Browne indicated that whilst he was held up he also felt that the horse was somewhat reluctant to improve to the inside of other runners at it became awkward to the inside of GUADALUPE when attempting to improve near the 500m, and when able to improve near the 200m the horse raced greenly and when he was attempting to shift out around DELAWAR near the 100m, the horse again showed a reluctance to respond to being directed out at that point.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance Jockey R Plumb was at a loss to explain the performance and could only add that the gelding travelled well until placed under pressure entering the home straight and failed to respond. As a result near the 200m he elected to ease the gelding over the final stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities at the time of examination. A swab sample was taken.
