When questioned into the disappointing performance of the gelding Jockey stated that after beginning awkwardly MUSTANG JACK had only been able to assume the lead as per his normal racing pattern after working hard in the early stages and as a result had been unable to finish off the race as strongly as expected. Trainer was of the opinion that the gelding may not have backed up after a 7 day turnaround on a firm surface at Laura. A post-race Veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
