When afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance, apprentice B. She added that, in her opinion, the mare may not have been suited with the drop back in distance to 800m today. Apprentice Ainsworth further stated that Capital City was somewhat disappointing. Slow to begin. InquiryStewards ed trainer W. Hulbert regarding the improved performance. He indicated that during this preparation the horse had worked well and performed well in jumpouts. He added the horse was quite slow to begin at its most recent start and as the race was a shorter distance than today’s event he was unable to muster sufficient early speed to make up ground. He felt that due to the step up in distance and slow early tempo in today’s event, this was more suitable and the horse’s racing pattern after it had been quite slow to begin. He also indicated the gear change perfo

Stewards questioned B. Panya regarding the tactics adopted and the performance of the horse. She indicated that after riding the horse forward, as is the horse’s racing pattern, she initially intended settling to the outside of DANDOG, however when her mount raced keenly she elected to allow the horse to stride passing the 1000m in an attempt to cross that horse, however DANDOG continued to hold its position to the inside, and whilst her mount did settle somewhat when approaching the 600m, the gelding was immediately under pressure passing the 400m and was disappointing in the run to the line.
