As jockey R. McMahon’s arrival on course was delayed, D. Griffin was substituted as the rider of the horse. When asked to comment on the performance of the horse, jockey Griffin indicated his mount raced quite greenly in the early and middle stages after he had been instructed to allow the horse to settle out of the barriers. He indicated that, in his opinion, the gelding finished the race off strongly despite laying in form the 400m onwards. He added that trainer Mr B. Baldwin suggested he would now look to spell the horse

Maloney indicated after beginning well he attempted to obtain cover by steadying in the early stages, which he was unable to do so, and, in his opinion, this had a detrimental effect on the overall performance. He added that despite not obtaining cover he was still disappointed with the overall performance in the run to the line as the horse weakened in the final 200m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
