Stewards questioned apprentice in regard to his ride. Apprentice explained he had been instructed to ride gelding in a forward position. He said after beginning well he rode his mount along in an attempt to comply with his instructions. Added that in the middle stages he was able to work forward of the other runner however was unable to cross when he received calls appealing for racing room. Apprentice concurred with stewards that he should have made a greater effort to cross the runner to his inside which would have enabled him to dictate terms in front and not cover excessive ground. |
