When asked as to why she remained racing 3 wide without cover when there appeared opportunity to restrain and race behind COLLARS UP, apprentice S. Lacy stated that the horses usual racing pattern is to race in front or up on the speed, and the mare has shown in the past to have a reluctance to being restrained as well as an inclination to choke down. She added that in the heavy going she was not overly concerned to maintain the position she did, however in hindsight conceded it may have been more advantageous to endeavour to restrain to find cover. Raced with its head in the air when being restrained in the early stages. When asked to comment on the horse’s performance, J. Byrne indicated that at no stage did the horse travel comfortably, racing with its head in the air in the early stages and near the 850m, when following MOGUL, that horse shifted in and made contact with the running rail. He felt that this caused his mount to shy and lose ground and become very awkward in its action. He indicated that from that point onwards the horse did not respond to his riding and was very disappointing in the run to the line.
