Connections advised that it would be the intention for the gelding to be ridden further back in the field today if circumstances permit. After jumping, the gelding was restrained and caught 3 wide, and was unable to obtain cover despite the efforts of its rider and, as a result, raced 3 wide in a forward position until a point passing the 900m where it obtained cover. Commenced to weaken after passing the 400m, and was slightly cramped for room by runners to its outside which were laying in slightly, and had to be steadied away from the heels of GLENTURRET which was weakening.

Rider was fined the sum of $300 for returning to scale in excess of 0.5kg over his mounts declared weight. Began awkwardly, making contact with the barrier and lost ground. Travelled keenly throughout the middle stages and approaching the 800m was steadied and shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of runner. An inquiry into the handling of the gelding over the final 600m was opened and adjourned to a date to be fixed.

Steadied rounding the home turn when placed in restricted room between PETAIN and CHAVO which shifted out. Stewards sought an explanation as to Jockey P Hammersleys riding in the home straight. Jockey Hammersley stated that after receiving interference at the top of the straight, his mount then failed to respond immediately to his riding and therefore when placed out of contention, he elected not to continue to ride his mount for the remainder.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a nasal discharge and to be displaying signs of having a respiratory infection. Trainer’s representative Mr R. Tyrell advised stewards that the gelding would undergo an endoscopic examination in coming days, the results of which would be forwarded to stewards. Mr Tyrrell was advised that SICARIO will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
