When questioned regarding the below market expectation performance App. N Fazakerley advised that after beginning well the gelding was able to obtain its customary forward position however during the event the gelding was unable to settle as a result of AFTER THE STORM racing keenly to its outside. App N Fazakerley was of the opinion this factor, combined with the large weight impost the gelding was required to carry were the major contributing factors to the performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.

Mr Sears advised that as this was the first start the gelding had had in his stable he was unable to explain the horses previous racing pattern. Mr Sears added that the gelding had jumped out twice in preparation for tonight’s event and on both occasions had settled in a forward position and for that reason had expected it to settle in a forward in tonight’s event however was somewhat surprised to see the gelding leading. Stewards noted the explanation.
