Stewards inquired into the tactics employed in running. Trainer G Holt advised the instructions were to ride the gelding as per its normal racing pattern, in a rearward position with cover, if circumstances permitted. Jockey A Sewell confirmed the instructions adding that after beginning well and becoming aware that the runners drawn inside were not eager to lead, he elected to press forward into a clear lead passing the 800m in order to avoid being caught wider than necessary. Jockey Sewell further stated that PERFECT KNOWLEDGE had commenced to over-race passing the 700m, continuing to do so
