Jockey L. McCoy reported that during the middle stages of the race her mount felt somewhat awkward in its action and was reluctant to stretch out. She added that, in her opinion, the gelding’s action improved in the home straight, however it still did not feel entirely comfortable and, for that reason, she desisted from riding it out over the concluding stages. On the advice provided by jockey McCoy, Stewards ordered a veterinary examination be undertaken on the gelding which revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Currie advised that he remained at a loss to explain the mare’s poor performance at its last start, as its form prior to that event had been quite good. Mr. Currie added that the mare continued to work well following its last start and, from the good barrier today, he had again expected the mare to run well.
