When asked to explain the performance of the gelding today, Jockey Plumb explained that his instructions from Mr T Gollan were to afford the gelding clear room in the run as at its previous start when cluttered away, it proved disappointing. Jockey Plumb added that with a nice trailing position on the outside today, it afforded him clear running after passing the 500m which he attributes to the better performance.

Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey J. Byrne stated that the filly failed to travel comfortably throughout the event and proved disappointing. Trainer T. Gollan’s only explanation for the disappointing performance was that the filly may not have appreciated today’s soft track. Nevertheless, Mr Gollan undertook to advise stewards of any abnormality that becomes apparent which may explain today’s performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery.

Added when ONE STRYKE crossed MAKES YOU THINK near 800m this resulted in him settling at rear of the field, albeit only three lengths from leading division. Further added able to improve into the race from 600m and was mindful to maintain cover until straightening as his mount was inclined to lay out at previous start when exposed rounding home turn.
