Slow to begin before mustering speed under hard riding to occupy a forward position. When questioned regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of the horse, which started a short-priced favourite, rider J. Lloyd explained that his instructions were to make use of the favourable barrier and after beginning slowly he then elected to push forward on the colt as it had led in its most recent trial. He also noted that the horse made some abnormal respiratory noises in running and had to work hard to hold a position. He also noted that the horse may have choked down and was disappointing.

Rdr std approach h/t mnt became held up behind ldr & rounding h/t he elected to shift outside that rnrs heels and track rnr outside ldr into straight as was of opinion it was travelling better & would likely shift wider on trck providing clear run to inside. Fthr std this run did not eventuate & was h/up until 250m when run btwn rnrs presented & mnt found line well.
