Thompson advised that when placing the gelding under pressure rounding the home turn, he was of the opinion that the gelding may have faltered behind and for that reason he elected to ease the gelding down in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with Trainer T Gollan in relation to the post-race recovery of the gelding in the days subsequent to today’s event.

When qst re the poor performance, rdr std mnt was able to hold lead comfortably. Std mnt travelled strongly on the bit in middle stages, became under pressure soon after entering straight where it failed to respond to riding from that point. A post-race vet exam rev gelding to have a poor post-race recovery. Tnr could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance and undertook to report back to Stwds the results of a vet inspection of gelding subsequent to event. Stwds ruled that the gelding would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stwds prior to its next start.

Jockey T Marshall when asked to comment regarding the performance of RAYJEN stated that the filly did not travel comfortably at any stage and struggled to hold a competitive position and proved very disappointing in the straight. The filly was sent for a post-race veterinary examination which revealed it was lame in the off hind. Trainer R Heathcote was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the filly racing again. A swab sample was also taken.

Jockey B Nothdurft was pleaded guilty to a charge to careless riding under AR131(a) in that approaching the 150m he shifted in when insufficiently clear of MARLA JANE which was eased and lost rightful running. Jockey B Nothdurft licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence midnight the 20 October 2021 and expire midnight 28 October 2021.
