Doonican Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the disappointing performance, Rider B Pengelly reported that the gelding failed to sprint under pressure from the 400m. He added that DOONICAN will take a fitness benefit from today’s race and will also be better suited over a further distance. Nassau County Began awkwardly and was contacted shortly after jumping. Raced ungenerously when being restrained in the early stages. When questioned regarding the performance Jockey T Marshall reported that in his opinion racing wide throughout the event was the major contributing factor to the poor performance. Jewel Flight Slow to begin. Performed below market expectation and underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the mare to have the thumps and a slow post-race recovery. Jockey Orman reported that after travelling well the mare failed to respond from the 450m, proved disappointing and in his opinion did not handle the track conditions. Trainer D Vandyke advised stewards that he would not start the mare on heavy tracks in the future and that it would undergo further veterinary examinations and report the findings back to stewards prior to racing again. Savagal Carried wider on the track passing the 200m by COGNAC (NZ), which laid out under pressure. When questioned regarding SAVAGAL racing further forward in today’s event, Jockey J Orman stated that after being caught wide in the early stages, allowed his mount to improve to take up a position outside the lead. He added that his mount travelled well throughout the event but when placed under pressure, failed to respond to his riding and ran to the line in a disappointing manner.
