When asked to comment on the tactics adopted Jockey R Maloney stated that he was instructed to race in a forward position if possible, but after beginning fairly and caught wide elected to ease to find cover closer to the rail. He further added that he was of the opinion that his best option was to ride for luck and if possible obtain a run to the inside. Upon straightening he was unable to secure clear running, was held up and subsequently was unable to be fully tested over the concluding stages.

Bumped on jumping. Passing the 800m, when overracing and laying out, became awkwardly placed at the heels of SIMPLY FLY, which shifted in slightly, and had to be checked. Checked passing the 200m when crowded for room to the inside of RETURN WITH HONOUR and to the outside of REAL FINE WINE, which shifted out before being corrected by its rider. Lost the off fore plate in running.

At a subsequent inquiry stewards were of the opinion that both runners were attempting to obtain the same position one off the rail and as a result took no further action.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be short-striding in front.
