When questioned regarding his riding in the home straight, rider stated that the gelding hung in from the 800m and, as a result, when he placed his mount under pressure he was not able to apply his full vigour due to concerns he had with its racing manners. He added that near the finish of the event, when finishing the race off well, he had to reduce the amount of vigour he applied to his mount due to another runner shifting out in advance of him. Rider was advised to ensure he fully tests his mounts, even in circumstances where he may be placed under some disadvantage.

Burst through the gates, was vetted and cleared to start. Again broke through the front of the barrier. Runners to the inside of MINKS STAR were removed and placed into barriers to the inside of barrier four. Slow to begin. Near the 1000m, MINKS STAR shifted out abruptly from MISHANI WARFARE. As a result, POLITICAL DEBATE and MISHANI SPARTAN had to be checked when tightened for room between MINKS STAR and SANDPAPER. Near the 900m, MINKS STAR commenced to overrace and made contact with the hindquarters of COUNT DA BEANS. A warning was placed on the filly’s racing manners.

He std when rnr he was trailing impr from 650m he encouraged mount without using full vigour however rnr was able to est a break on his mount though cont to urge mount & finished race of well. Tnr conf instr though no spec instr given in respect to timing of geld’s finishing run. Rdr adv should of shown better judgement from 650m to maintain pos behind rnr he was trailing.

He said that the mare settled back in the field close to the rail, however was under pressure prior to straightening and was was not travelling well enough to shift winder, he elected to remain racing close to the fence where the mare finished off fairly. He than added that the mare may be suited over further distances. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer confirmed instructions.
