Jockey Orman stated that he was instructed to assume the lead if possible and attempt to get the gelding to settle, however it overraced badly before tiring from the final 500m. In attempting to comply with those instructions he rode without committing to a forward or rearward position, and when in a 5-wide position passing the 1200m, pushed forward and raced 3 wide without cover. He advised stewards he had considered restraining to obtain cover at the rear of the field, however was of the view that given the pattern of racing
